Phones in general are a distraction and can’t help but lead to wrecks or other consequences. I think that more than laws and “phone scrambling” can be done to prevent accidents. I have a 2008 Mercury Milan and that model is equipped with a technology called Sync by Microsoft. This technology is a hands free device that lets you speak commands to the car and do things like makes phone calls, get directions on the navigation system, or choose and change songs. It eliminates the need to take your hands off the wheel and your eyes off the road. I think that if a technology like this were to be made a standard accessory in cars that this could take out several distractions. However, it does not have the capability to send or read text messages aloud. Taking the step not to text while driving will have to come from the discipline of said driver.
