Claus – thanks you for your comments. I'm not exclusively a UK analyst – as you know. The failure of the current government to understand the huge contribution that ITC makes to the economy will be good news for my friends like Pim and Marcel in Holland whose suppliers will gain from this move. Another big issue is the large number of multintional suppliers who dodge corporation tax – see Private Eye's excellent coverage of Vodafone for instance. The focus on deregulation here gets taken over so often by the vested interest and influence of American suppliers. Instead of continuing with the 'same old, same old' the government could use the sector to help with its austerity aims. This move demonstartes its fails to understand.

NBC likes to point out every American that's playing in the games they televise. They will tell you the player's home town if they're American. If they played college hockey, but are Canadian, they will point out the player's college but never his home town or country. Are they subtly trying to suggest to their naive viewers that most of the players are American?

The reason? The airbags might go off when you don’t want them to. Water leaks in 2008 model year minivans may accidentally trigger a warning light and/or accidental airbag deployment. The culprit is an HVAC hose grommet that was improperly installed. Moisture can then collect in the minivan’s carpet and drip into the airbag deployment module. Chrysler will begin notifying owners of the recall in February, and as always, the fix will come at no cost. Aditya Birla Group is planning to acquire Columbian Chemicals Company, a US-based carbon black manufacturer, for $800 Mn from One Equity Partners.
For Aditya Birla Group, carbon black is a strategic area for growth and this acquisition will place Aditya Birla’s position among the world’s top carbon black producers.
Georgia-based Columbian Chemicals was founded in 1922 by several small carbon black manufacturers which was later acquired by Phelps Dodge Corporation in 1986. In 2006, South Korean firm DC Chemical and One Equity bought the company from Phelps, followed by One Equity’s acquisition of DC Chemical’s 67% stake in 2009. The company operates 16 plants in 11 countries with 1,300 employees and is the world’s third-largest carbon black manufacturer after Cabot and Evonik.
