Should You Stain A Garage Floor With Quikrete Concrete Stain?

Quikrete holds the title as most popular between the various garage floor coatings. This could be due to a catchy name, or good old fashion reputation building, but there’s really no one even close. Considering this, it definitely makes sense that Quikrete Concrete Stain is seen as the best garage floor stain out there by most people.

Which Quikrete Concrete Stain Should You Use?

Believe it or not, there’s any specific product called “Quikrete Concrete Stain”. For those that aren’t in the know, this can lead to some confusion as, when searching for Quikrete Concrete Stain, the results you get will be either Quikrete Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain, or another staining product, Quikrete Etching Stain. You need to be careful when you decide, too, as the two products are going to give you very different results. Let’s take a look at the Quikrete Etching Stain. In time, I’m sure I’ll get to the Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain, but not now. Oh, don’t get so upset, I’ll do it eventually. And don’t forget to eat your vegetables.

According To Quikrete, Etching Stain Is The Best Solution For Your Garage

Quikrete is pretty specific in their recommendation to use only etching stain when it comes to your garage, and there is sound reasoning behind that. To etch concrete, the surface of your concrete garage floor is actually kind of melted using acid, and then lines are scraped in to give texture while, using this product, a stain of your choice of color is also added. Not only will the garage end up with a nice, old world, classic look, but it will also provide more traction.

Don’t Worry, Etching Isn’t All That Hard

Etching concrete is not difficult. Actually, Quikrete says that their etching stain is a one-coat application. They also make it very clear that a sealant must be used, though, so that pretty much kills the one coat idea. Still, the complete install is much easier than epoxy garage floor paint and, after you apply the sealant, there will be some protection, which stain alone can’t claim. Also, don’t forget that you will need to thoroughly clean the garage floors and, if your floor has oil or grease stains, you’ll want to use a stain remover. One coat, huh?

An Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Is Cheap, So Staining Is Even Cheaper, Right?

Generally, yes, but not here. I guess it’s because of the acids that are used for the etching, but Quikrete Etching Stain runs a bit over $300 before you add cleaner and sealant. That’s pretty expensive for stain, which is generally a lot cheaper than garage floor tiles. But garage floor tile can’t give concrete a marble look. Is the additional cost worth it? I suppose that depends on you. I would say that it’s not if protecting the concrete is priority number one, even though, once it is sealed, the concrete will be protected to a degree. If the goal, though, is to make the concrete look quite different than other garage floor finishes, this will definitely do it.

  3. Just another example of how religion contradicts itself and tries to suppress natural human (and animal for that matter) instincts. If it feels good "God" must hate it.
